Business plan, products, compensation & verified IBO reviews — 2026 edition
Amway is a privately held direct selling company headquartered in Ada, Michigan. It was founded in 1959 by Rich DeVos and Jay Van Andel and remains the largest network marketing company in the world by annual revenue. The company sells health, beauty and home care products through a network of Independent Business Owners (IBOs) in over 100 countries. Since 1959 the company has paid out more than INR 4.3 lakh crore in commissions and incentives globally and reported around $8.4 billion in worldwide sales in its 2019 fiscal year.
The Amway business plan covers the company's product range, the IBO compensation structure and the path from registration to qualifying for bonuses. Flagship brands include Nutrilite vitamins (the world's #1 selling vitamins and dietary supplements brand), Artistry skincare, Atmosphere Drive air purifiers, G&H personal care and the L.O.C. range of home care. In India, Amway has invested ₹600 crore in a domestic manufacturing plant and offers more than 140 products across seven categories. The company has been operating in India since 1998 with a reported turnover above ₹2,000 crore.
IBOs in India can earn through four streams: retail margin on direct customer sales, trade discount on personal purchases, sales commission under the Core Plan (3% to 21% slabs) and discretionary incentives under the Core Plus+ program. Joining the Amway business in India carries zero joining cost, no minimum purchase requirement and a 90-day cooling-off period with a full refund on products and material. Anyone evaluating the opportunity should read the company's published Income Disclosure first. Amway's US disclosure shows that the majority of registered IBOs earn under $1,000 per year before expenses, with a small fraction at Diamond pin level and above earning six and seven-figure incomes.

Overview: how the Amway business plan works
The Amway business plan is built on a points-and-volume Core Plan with a layered Core Plus+ discretionary incentives program. In India, the registered roles are Amway Direct Seller (ADS), Amway Direct Retailer (ADR) and Preferred Customer (PCP). An ADS sells Amway products and can introduce other entrepreneurs to build a sales team; an ADR sells to customers but cannot build a team; a PCP is an end-user who buys at preferred prices through an ADS or ADR.
Direct sellers can earn through four official streams: retail margin on personal customer sales, trade discount on eligible purchases, Core Plan sales commission (3% to 21% based on monthly point volume) and Core Plus+ incentives that complement the Core Plan with additional multipliers and cash awards at qualifying pin levels. One point equals ₹80 of net sales volume (excluding taxes and discounts).
The six income streams
The official Amway India brochure lists four ways to earn from the business, with two additional reward streams unlocked at qualifying achievement levels. All figures below are from the Amway India Business Overview brochure (July 2020 edition).
Retail margin
The difference between your selling price (up to MRP) and the Distributor Acquisition Price (DAP). Available from day one. The brochure uses a 10% retail margin for its illustrative calculations.
Trade discount
A discount given to Amway Direct Sellers and Direct Retailers when they purchase eligible products from Amway for retailing. The brochure uses a 10% trade discount in its example calculations.
Core Plan sales commission
Monthly commission earned on points generated through product sales and the sales team you build. The rate steps up from 3% at 200 team points to 21% at 10,000 team points per month.
Core Plus+ early incentives
Customer Sales Incentive (up to 10% of NSV on verified customer sales), Bronze Foundation Incentive at 9% level (15% multiplier on Sales Commission) and Bronze Builder Incentive at 15% level (20% multiplier).
Core Plus+ leader incentives
For Silver Producer and above: Personal Group Growth Incentive (10% to 40% multiplier) and Frontline Growth Incentive at Founders Platinum level (10% to 40% on Leadership and Group Development Commissions).
Two-Time Cash Incentive (TTCI)
Cash payment for first-time pin qualification, with a requalification payment if the same level is achieved the next year. Payouts range from ₹1,00,000 at Platinum to ₹7,80,000 at Founders Diamond.
Amway India business plan
Amway India has operated under the same global Core Plan structure in INR since 1998 and reports a turnover of over ₹2,000 crore. The company invested ₹600 crore in a domestic manufacturing plant under the Make in India programme and offers more than 140 products across nutrition, beauty, personal care, home care, air purifiers, traditional herbs and durables. About one-third of Amway India sales now flow through www.amway.in.
Joining the Amway India business carries zero joining cost and no minimum purchase requirement. New joiners get a 90-day cooling-off period: if you decide to exit during this window, you are eligible to return products and material purchased from Amway and receive a full refund. All payments to Amway Direct Sellers and Direct Retailers are credited directly to their bank accounts.
The Core Plan sales commission schedule (effective 1 Sep 2019) is the official slab structure used in India:
India uses three official roles. An Amway Direct Seller (ADS) is an entrepreneur who can sell Amway products and introduce other entrepreneurs to build a team. An Amway Direct Retailer (ADR) sells products to customers but does not have rights to build a sales team. A Preferred Customer (PCP) is an end-user registered through an ADS or ADR who can buy products and participate in the loyalty program. Net Sales Volume figures exclude taxes and discounts.
Where to find the Amway business plan PDF
Amway does not publish the full IBO Compensation Plan as a public download. Active IBOs receive the current booklet in their starter kit and inside the Amway+ mobile app. Many older Amway business plan PDFs and PowerPoint decks circulate on Scribd, SlideShare and similar document-sharing sites, but these are usually three to ten years out of date and quote pin thresholds and bonus percentages that no longer apply.
For accurate current figures, request the booklet through an active IBO or contact Amway corporate at the regional office for your country.
How to join Amway: step-by-step
The official path to becoming an IBO. Each step takes minutes; the full process is usually complete within a single day.
-
1
Find a sponsor (optional but recommended)
An active IBO can refer you and become your upline. They get a share of bonuses on your group volume, but the joining fee is the same with or without a sponsor.
-
2
Register on amway.com
Create an account in your country. The registration form collects your name, address, ID number for tax purposes and payment information for the starter kit.
-
3
Register at no joining cost
In India, the company has moved to a zero joining cost model with no minimum purchase requirement to participate in the Amway business. In the US the starter kit fee is $76 USD; other markets have equivalent local terms. The registration covers your ADS or ADR enrolment and access to training and ordering tools.
-
4
Receive the starter kit
Digital starter kit includes the IBO Compensation Plan booklet, getting-started training and access to the Amway+ app. Some markets ship a physical kit with product samples.
-
5
Build your first month of volume
Generate Net Sales Volume to qualify for commission slabs. The Core Plan starts paying at 3% from 200 team points per month (₹16,000 NSV in India) and steps up through seven slabs to 21% at 10,000 team points. Most new direct sellers hit the lower slabs through a mix of personal use and direct sales to customers.
-
6
Use the 90-day cooling-off window if needed
Amway India offers a 90-day cooling-off period from the date of joining. If you decide the business is not for you, you are eligible to return the products and material purchased from Amway during this window and receive a full refund. Before scaling up, also read the official Income Disclosure for your market — most active direct sellers earn modest supplemental income and the top pin levels represent a small fraction.

Distributor reviews
The product quality is genuinely premium, especially Nutrilite. The plan is well-documented and the leadership bonus structure is one of the most generous I've seen. That said, anyone telling you this is "easy money" hasn't read the income disclosure. The bottom 75% of IBOs earn under $500 a year. I'm in the top 5% and it took 8 years of consistent work.
Amway gets a lot of unfair criticism. Yes, most people don't make significant money. That's true of any sales career. But the corporate side is rock-solid. Products work, returns are honored, the comp plan is one of the few in the industry that's actually published in full. Treat it like a real business and it pays out.
My upline pushes the "system" (CDs, books, seminars) hard. Those costs add up fast. The products themselves are great quality but priced 30 to 50% above comparable retail brands. If you can't sell that premium, you're going to struggle. Three stars because the company is legit but the field culture varies wildly.
Frequently asked questions
What is the business model of Amway?
Amway operates a direct selling model with multi-level marketing compensation. The company manufactures and distributes its own products (Nutrilite, Artistry, Atmosphere Drive, G&H and others) and sells them to consumers through a network of Amway Direct Sellers and Direct Retailers in 100+ countries. Direct sellers earn retail margin on personal customer sales, trade discount on eligible purchases, sales commission under the Core Plan and discretionary incentives under Core Plus+. There is no salaried sales force. In India, joining the business carries zero joining cost and no minimum purchase requirement.
What is the Amway business plan in 2026?
The Amway business plan in 2026 follows the Core Plan and Core Plus+ structure documented in the official Amway India Business Overview brochure. The Core Plan pays sales commission on a seven-slab schedule that steps from 3% at 200 team points (₹16,000 net sales volume) up to 21% at 10,000 team points (₹8 lakh net sales volume). One point equals ₹80 of net sales volume excluding taxes and discounts. Core Plus+ adds discretionary incentives that complement the Core Plan: Customer Sales Incentive, Bronze Foundation Incentive, Bronze Builder Incentive, Personal Group Growth Incentive, Frontline Growth Incentive and the Two-Time Cash Incentive at Platinum and above. All figures are subject to the current Amway compensation plan booklet.

Where can I download the Amway business plan PDF?
Amway does not publish the full IBO Compensation Plan as a free download. Active IBOs receive the current booklet in their starter kit and inside the Amway+ mobile app. Many older Amway business plan PDFs and PowerPoint decks circulate on Scribd, SlideShare and similar sites, but these are usually three to ten years out of date and quote pin thresholds and bonus percentages that no longer apply. Is Amway a pyramid scheme?
No. The US Federal Trade Commission investigated Amway in 1979 and ruled in the case In re Amway Corp. that the company operates as a legitimate multi-level marketing business rather than an illegal pyramid scheme. The ruling rests on the 70-percent rule and the 10-customer rule, which together require IBOs to sell at least 70% of their product to genuine end consumers and document at least 10 retail customers each month before earning bonuses. Critics still highlight that the majority of IBOs earn very little, which is reflected in Amway's own published Income Disclosure.
How much does it cost to join Amway?
In India, joining the Amway business has zero joining cost and no minimum purchase requirement. New joiners get a 90-day cooling-off period with full refund on products and material purchased from Amway. In the US the starter kit fee is $76 USD and covers registration plus a year of training and ordering tools. There is no franchise fee or inventory commitment in either market. Beyond registration, direct sellers in India earn through retail margin, trade discount, Core Plan sales commission (3% to 21%) and Core Plus+ discretionary incentives. Optional upline tools, conferences and business support material are sold separately and are not required to participate.
How much do Amway distributors actually earn?
Amway's published US Income Disclosure shows the average monthly gross income for an active IBO is around $200 before expenses. The figure for all registered IBOs including inactive ones is lower. In India, the official brochure presents illustrative monthly income examples at each Core Plan commission level — for example at the 3% level, an ADS with verified preferred customer sales might generate retail margin, trade discount, sales commission and Customer Sales Incentive together. These are illustrations of plan structure, not earnings projections. Top pin levels (Diamond and above, which represent a small fraction of one percent of direct sellers) earn six and seven-figure annual incomes from sales commission, Core Plus+ multipliers and Two-Time Cash Incentive payouts that range from ₹1,00,000 at Platinum to ₹7,80,000 at Founders Diamond. The majority of registered direct sellers earn modest supplemental income and many spend more on tools and conferences than they earn back.
What is the difference between ADS, ADR and PCP in Amway India?
Amway India recognises three official roles. An Amway Direct Seller (ADS) is an entrepreneur who sells Amway products to customers either directly or through a team of similar entrepreneurs and Direct Retailers introduced to the business. An Amway Direct Retailer (ADR) is an entrepreneur who sells Amway products to customers but does not have rights to build a sales team of their own. A Preferred Customer (PCP) is an end-user registered with Amway through an ADS or ADR, who can purchase Amway products at preferred customer prices and participate in the loyalty program. ADS roles unlock both Core Plan sales commission and Core Plus+ leader incentives at qualifying pin levels; ADR roles earn retail margin and trade discount but do not access leader incentives that require team building.
